This policy defines the criteria and processes for ensuring satisfactory academic progression and
standing within the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) program at Nucleus University School of
Dentistry Aruba (NUSOD). It emphasizes the importance of professionalism, academic
achievement, and adherence to program standards. These guidelines ensure that students
progress through the program effectively, meeting the required competencies and academic
benchmarks essential for a career in dentistry.
Table of Content:
Academic Progress
A student achieves satisfactory academic progress by successfully completing the sequence of
courses, clerkships, and other curriculum requirements as established by the Curriculum
Committee. This includes maintaining standards in knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes
aligned with NUSOD's Program Educational Objectives, highlighting the critical role of
professionalism.

Academic Sanctions
Adherence to the principles of academic integrity, professionalism, and the completion of
coursework and clinical competencies are fundamental to the success of students. When students
fail to meet these essential criteria, academic sanctions may be imposed to address these
deficiencies. Unprofessional conduct, regardless of academic achievements, may independently
trigger such sanctions, emphasizing the program's commitment to the highest standards of
professional behavior. The range of sanctions includes, but is not limited to, academic warnings,
probation, and mandatory repetition of courses or clinical rotations. These measures are not
punitive in nature but are designed to provide a structured opportunity for students to address
and rectify their academic or behavioral shortcomings. Compliance with the outlined expectations
and the successful completion of any imposed remedial actions are crucial steps for students to
return to good standing within the DDS program.
